Evergreen shower Blow Or cotton Cordell pencil popper in a chop.
Rebel pop r - tweaked by sanding bottom curve off on bottom lip and sand sides thinner. You can now get that in a Booyah or Lobina Rico without having to sand a pop r.
Lobina RICO- fixed flaws in newer Rebel Pop R molds which have curve in the bottom lip which you don’t want.
Buy the blems usually 1/2 price on sale.
Put your own hooks on them versus paying $19.99 a lure.
Academy H20 Topwater cheap and works
Zoom spooks

Rapala Skitterwalk

Any color works, but I mostly buy the chartreuse/bone or Red Head

Rapala Skitterwalk in most conditions. If it is a bit windy I might throw a she-dog. I do not believe color really matters.

People that actually are into poppers and fish them a lot would understand what I am saying.

Shedogs, Hedogs. and rebel jumping minnows have their place also.

I find pencil poppers do a lot better job than Mirrorlures when targeting larger bass and trout in a chop. Pencil poppers Is used more in striper fishing as the lure is longer than usual. The mouth is cupped to spit water like a pop r, while the long straight body makes a large commotion, and body walks the dog without a lot of work similar to a spook which attracts larger fish.

Rebel Pop R old version with the straight bottom lip not the curve also has it place. New ones have the curve which does not pop as well as the old ones. Rico and Booyah fixed those flaws.

I've recently discovered Livingston Wake Baits. Super easy to use especially from my Kayak.

I probably fish top waters 60% of the time and I only use Shedogs. color doesn't seem to matter. Gotta be able to walk the dog.

Getting this down is step one. Then you figure out how vary it. Sometimes work it slow an lazy. Other times they want it fast and almost jumping up and down.

I thought the top water stuff was more for the cooler weather. Is that not the case?

I have had great days in August historically, but not since 2017

I'm a Skitterwalk guy too, the 11cm only. Have never caught on the smaller version.

Holographic, chrome and black, bone, and speckled

From 2015-2017 I had a run where I caught better on topwater than the rest in the boat fishing live bait and/or any other artificial

2018-2020 has been almost non-existent

One knocker spook

I like it because only two treble hooks but medium sized - between super and Jr sizes

I like Chrome/black, woodpecker, and bone. I caught a 6# trout last month on chrome and black, can’t beat that feeling!

Not in my experience I will fish them most of the year from late February until November. I'm certain there are articles out there that will list which conditions are the best for it.
