Will deer move Sunday with 20+mph winds? I plan on going to the camp. Wondering if I should work instead of hunting.

I sure hope we don’t have the same experience the kids in Venice had. We’re going to Big Branch sunday and last time we were there, a few hunters we’re getting at each other about 100 yards or so away. One was blowing the ratchet with his call to piss everyone around him off…

Good times on public land.

One of the deer on my wall was killed on January 3, 1999. It was about 35 degrees and 20mph plus winds. He got up to look around and wander in the cutover. I wouldn’t advise a climber Sunday.

Some of the biggest deer I've ever seen killed were killed when 90% of the camp stayed in because it was too windy.
Be that 10%!

If you have a doe about ready then deer will be going crazy cause her scent will be all over place. Windy days have been some of the most fun I’ve had, but if they ain’t rutting and the wind is being variable then stay at the house

I’m torn between going slipping in a swamp where they bed, or go sit another bedding area for a patrolling buck.

Rifle and buck only for both. Option b has a deer check and would be a far drag with the low water.

Rut is well over with here. Not sure I should bother with the weather Sunday, but it's our last day and I don't have any meat yet.

Right now i'd start out the 1st morning in a stand near your doe traffic areas, just so you don't waste the morning.

Then, about 11 am, if nothing transpired to keep u there, get down and go look for fresh scrapes & rubs. If you find fresh scrapes, get your stand & move in. Hurry up pick a nth & sth wind tree. Mark each . Get up according to wind. Stay. Pack a lunch & stay.

That’s a solid plan, thanks I may try something along those lines. Since it’s rifle and the trees are very thick I’ll be on the ground. It’s hard to find a suitable tree for sticks and saddle.

Scrapes have been everywhere and yesterday morning I saw a big body buck walking pretty quick with its head down perpendicular to the wind 15 min after shooting light. Not a huge rack, looked like a 6-8 pt.

Historically I’ve seen rut activity first couple weeks of January so could be prime.
