I'm looking into renting a fishing charter at Toledo Bend for my family of 5. I assume that would be a pontoon boat. I've never been. Thinking about going in June or July. Trying to catch crappie.

Do you have any recommendations or words of wisdom?

recommendations

My buddy just smashed 130 between 6 people with Living the Dream 2 days ago. One crappie guide out of San Miguel posts here frequently, he'll chime in I'm sure. My buddies and I have about a 3 year stretch now of going with a guy named Tyler Lafitte (You can find him on facebook). All are highly recommended.

Go. It's a blast and while right now is probably one of the best times of the year, there is nothing wrong with going in June or July.

Martin Guide Service or Living the Dream are both good options.

Living The Dream Capt. Mike Shanley. My father in law paid for a couple days with him. I didn’t think I’d like it because I’m a grown man raised in south louisiana and know how to fish. Mike took care of my son and grandpa kept us on fish. He is a professional guide.

May and June are the two best most consistent months of the year. Hard to find a good guide that isn't already booked during that time. We book a year in advance every May. July would probably be okay but I went in mid July once and the guide said it was so hot the bite had slowed down. We could see the fish on the screen but they just wouldn't bite. We caught about 15 that day.

All the good guides will be booked. You may be able to find a random Monday or Tuesday but that’s not a bad thing as weekends are too crowded anyway.

I have been with Jim five or six times. Knows his stuff and is laid back. Highly recommend.

Frank Canizaro. Franks fishing charters on facebook. He is probably booked up but worth a shot. We are going with him next weekend.
