Thoughts on 1232 joe boat?

I am looking to get a small joe boat to leave at a duck lease and am looking hard at the 1232 alumacraft that Academy sells. It will be paired with a 7 hp stumpjumper long tail and will only be used to go down trenasses within the lease getting to and from duck ponds. I just wonder if it is too tippy as it has a 32" bottom but does have a 48" total beam. Any of you have experience with one of these? Hard to pass up for less than $600

I would go welded, especially for a mud boat. Rivets will start leaking the second you run it over something. Not that it's a real problem, more of a pita.

Maybe on older, lightweight aluminum jon boats, but the alumacraft that academy sells are heavy and can take a beating. I used to run one with a 9.8hp merc 110. With one man and little gear, I could barely get up on plane. That being said, I would routinely stand up and fish in it with me, another guy, a dog and gear.

To the OP - you should be able to find a used one on CL for $400 or less if you look around, but you just have to find one with papers.

That is the problem I am running into. Most people want damn near new money for used joe boats and almost none of them have papers on the small ones.

ETA: This boat would be drug out there and left for the season and doesn't have to cross any open water. Just want to wrap my head around if a 12' boat will be enough to put put two people and shotguns.

Absolutely. You won't go anywhere fast, but we would take my aforementioned set-up several miles up and down the red river when I had it in Shreveport.

Sweet. I am probably going buy one at academy tonight. According to most of the internet you need a damn 1752 to go anywhere with more than one person

I can't wait to put that little stump jumper to the test as it appears to be a nice little motor and gotta love that the whole rig will weigh less than 200 lbs boat and motor.

Just sit down when you're in it if you are worried about that. I've been in a 10x32 a few times, and a pirogue is way more tippy. Shouldn't have any problems

I would imagine they are better than the old ones. But you open yourself up to problems with a riveted boat that you just won't have with something that's welded. The first leak I got would make me wish I spent the extra cheddar.

Prepare to be pleasantly surprised by the stump jumper. I run one on a 15 foot gheenoe and that sucker can push some weight. It can push two 250 pound men with all our gear and decoys with no problem.

My Uncle has that exact model from Academy in his pond. It's pretty stable if your sitting down. Standing up is a little tipsy when your fishing with someone else. If your useing it to run a tranasse you'll be fine.

I have one and wouldn't hunt out of it. You should be good just running it if you are sitting down.

Would have platform blinds in the ponds just need to get there and back on the cheap. Don't want to leave much $$$ out there until I can get this place a little more secure.

If you want something on the cheap to leave on the side of the levee, my company has one that we could part with. It's the 12'er from Academy. $100?

ETA: and a hunt?

Tracker-Bass Pro has a cheap riveted one as well. Cabellas has some super cheap Lowe riveted boats which are probably the best made of the three. The Academy ones are pretty darn flimsy. I'd check the Lowe ones with a phone call at least.
