This Fella Explains Why Spinning Reels>Casting Reels

Spinning reel or baitcasting reel. It is an old arugment among anglers. Capt. Chris Myers explains the differences between the two kinds of reels and explains which type you may want to select for fishing in both fresh and salt water. This opinions are based on years of personal obersavtions on the water. The arguments in this video are open to friendly debate but have never been broken. There is only one kind of reel that can do all kinds of fishing from the tiniest of fish to the biggest giants of the sea.

Spinning is a necessary evil. They cause me almost more stress than they are worth.

Age old argument. The fact is they both have their place. For instance...women, children and girly men are far better off using a spinning reel.

I haven't attempted to use a bait caster since I was 10. F the bird's nests.

If you're not using a ultralight, tightlining for catfish or that Yankee dropshot or shaky tail stuff in freshwater you should be using a baitcaster

this video makes me sad. it really is a shame that some didn't have their fathers around to teach them to use a baitcaster.

He went so far as saying mono is useless, and use braided line only.
The thing with him is, he is obviously a guide. He sees people who haven't ever fished before in their lives. Moral of the story is that you have more control with a Baitcaster when you're casting anywhere from the 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock position and anything under that 180° line. If you know what you're doing, you have much more control with a baitcaster than a spinning reel.
He has a pretty biased opinion from being a guide/capt. Saltwater has no obstructions the majority of the time. Freshwater is totally different
Eta: I personally wouldn't use a baitcaster for lighter baits, but know a few people that can do it well. They are all tournament anglers though

Braid smaller than 50# is the bane of existence. I have it on a couple of reels. But I hate it.

quote:They honestly aren't bad reels. I used one last year when I just grabbed a handful of poles and my baitcaster had dry rotted line. Just wish I would've switched before I chucked a $12 spinner bait 30ft up a tree

LOL
95 % of the freshwater bass fishing I do, it is critical that i have a bait caster in my hand.
Such Control.
So accuracy.
