Backyard camping sounds lame. We've brought our 2 year old daughter and 6 month old son. Going again this year now that they're 3 and 1. Tickfaw is nice. Percy Quinn in Mississippi is cool. Fontainebleau is not bad. We've been over to Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores.
We have one of those ginormous tents with a screen porch.

I have been taking little head since he could walk.
Keep the meals simple. A one nighter may be the way to go the first time.
