Man...I don't know. Im usually bad at making these types of decisions for myself at times...but I like to think I'm good at reasoning them out.

So, basically, you have a nearly paid off 2010 truck that you want to pay off, then immediately sell to purchase a larger truck that is 12 to 15 years older with 2 to 3 times as many miles? Also keeping in mind this is just a truck you've always wanted but don't seem to need? The logical answer is pretty clear, but it's your money so do what makes you happy.

The smartest decision would be to pay off the 2010 and drive it til the wheels fall off, but I think you know that.

The money from the truck would go to the SUV.

I mean, I guess that does help the scenario...but, personally, I'd just stick with what I have. I think a 15 year old truck will be more of a headache than you think. I know they are generally very reliable, but as mentioned there is an entire truck and transmission attached to that engine as well. Plus I'm wary of any used vehicle with more than 30,000 on the clock...could maybe stretch that to 60k when talking diesels.

So basically you're saying never buy anything used.

No. I'm saying I heavily scrutinize used vehicles, and with good reason IMO. I don't trust previous owners maintenance whole heartedly.

Look, you asked why this would be a bad idea...so I'm just giving my opinion. Sounds like you've got your mind made up, so by all means please sell your nice 2010 that you bought new and go overpay for a 15 year old diesel with 3 times as many miles...but don't complain if it turns into a maintenance nightmare and a money pit. Old things do tend to break.

Trust me, my mind has nothing to do with this decision, I have a wife.

Again, the point was I have equity in one vehicle that would be better suited in another vehicle that we could use as a family vehicle.

What if I was replacing "f250" with "corolla"?
