Growing up in Texas there’s 4 things that we always frick up.

White Perch= Crappie
Logger Head Turtle= Alligator Snapper
Porpoise= dolphin
Opelousas catfish= flathead

For you coonasses it’s sac-a-lait and goujon

Before y’all correct me the first 3 listed are completely different critters.

technically, if you reread my post, I described the porpoises on the flats at Rockport not flour bluff. And they do scarf up the released trout

Technically, there are no porpoises in the Gulf of Mexico. That's why I stated there are no porpoises anywhere near Flour Bluff.

I hope that clarification enables some understanding on your part!

Oh, I did not realize this was a LGBTQRIS discussion. If you want to call that large fish crusing behind the boat drifting on Estes flats a dolphin instead of a porpoises that's okey.

The real issue is the collapse of the trout fishery and the need for Texas wildlife and fisheries to do something rather than continue to cut limits. Alaska hatcheries work, texas is for show only. I have been to hatcheries at both states, Alaska is an earnest effort

Im glad TPWD changed the limits. I don't think its going to help on the upper coast, but it isnt going to hurt. Increased pressure is one aspect of the decline, but like mentioned before, theres too many ecological/habitat issues that is the main culprit of why fishing has declined up and down the coast - IMO Port Mansfield and south rebounded quick from the freeze is theres no industry down there lining the bays

Yet, some millionaire businessman is wanting to build a large operation in the harbor in Mansfield, I can't remember exactly what the industry is but it will require a bunch of dock space in the harbor and more dredging of the channel out to the gulf. Locals are fighting it.

Wading Matagorda now vs 2000s, it’s a completely different place. No grass at all. We put a big dent in them with no limits for a while, but now they’re losing their habitat, and that’s obviously hard to fix.

Not disagreeing with you but pointing out 2 of the best Trout and Redfish areas on the gulf coast are Calcasieu Lake and Sabine Lake.
They both have a lot of industrial areas.

When we fish near offshore for trout, we are targeting the rigs.

We also catch trout and redfish under the lights or structure of the many docks along Calcasieu Ship Channel from Lake Charles to the Gulf.

Again, not saying some development might hurt the fishing, but I am confirming some development can help the fishery.
