Depends on what all you are looking for. Garrett At-pro is a great one. The entire machine is waterproof up to either 6 or 10 feet. It has a few different settings. I Bought mine with a bunch of extra stuff, but it was over $600.

Do you have guaranteed hunting spots? I'm having trouble finding places to go and didnt want to just go knocking on people's doors for permission. I will have to before long if I can't find some spots to hunt.

Buy online. I use kellycodetectors.com

I'd recommend a Garrett ACE 350. Great detector for the price. It will do everything you want it to do.

No. This is one you have to buy from a dealer or online. I would suggest online. Kelly Co.
Has some good deals at times, Amazon.

Some Pawn shops may have them in town. Some pawn shops are dealers.

Cabellas, Academy, Bass Pro sell some O.k. Ones, but that is why I was asking what you are using it for. I have a $115 dollar one and had a $250 dollar one, before I decided that if I was going to get into the hobby. I wanted to get one of the better ones that is versatile.

Not just for old guys

If you are interested in history and finding Civil War type items or just looking for old coins, it can be exciting.

Just plan on using it on some old civil war locations and such. May grow from there

The AT-pro isn't a beginner model, but it isn't really hard to figure out once you start playing with the different modes.
It has a setting for IRON, which will help locate those items, like civil war relics.

The ACE 350 that was mentioned, is a very good detector as well. It is the detector right below the AT-pro in the Garrett detector list.

You just need to figure out how much money you want to spend and how much time you will dedicate to it to make the right decision for you.

The main thing I have learned from reading and using the detectors, is to dig every signal whether the detector says it's a coin or foil or whatever. Gold sometimes gives off signals that the chart on the detector says is foil or something else.

In public parks pull tabs, cans and other trash will drive you nuts. That is why it is good to have spots to go on private property.
