Not always. The two I saw in Alaska were surprisingly small (and had radio collars). I think further south they are larger though
Local wolves (Alexander Archipelago wolves) are smaller but still have much larger paws. This is Romeo who was a lone wolf who lived near the Mendenhall Glacier before some retarded frickers shot him. He used to play with the local dogs when folks were skiing and skating across the lake.
