I am looking for a new climber. I am looking mainly for both comfort and portability. I have heard the Summit is more comfortable but the API is easier to carry in and out of the woods. What does the OB use?

I bought a Lone Wolf thinking it would be easier on me for longer walks. I used it twice. My old API is still one of the best products I've ever used in any category.

I use a summit viper. I march a few hundred yards through the woods on a typical morning. I normally have a pistol on my hip and my harness already on before putting my climber on my back. I mention that because, the harness with a pistol can limit your mobility; the weight of the climber isn't the problem. It's not bad at all, and i'm not in the best shape either.

Always API....I find them heavier but also quieter and much more comfortable than any other climber out there for long all day sits.

I've never used anything but Summit and Old man but I don't see how you could improve on Summit. Get the aluminum version to save on weight and just make sure you have the two parts cinched together and they won't rattle while walking. I use those big Green twisty-things to secure my backpack to the back of the stand and carry my rifle in hand.

based on brief BassPro research, the Summit is 18#, the lightest API 22#. The old API Grand Slam Lite was 16#. It is very stable and quiet, but apparently too costly to make, or too dangerous to insure.

I would try both, if possible, and pick the one you feel most comfortable.

Chains are better than cable. The teeth on the API are the best made.

Summit = plummet.
