Ive had both a cottonmouth and Horned Owl hit a spinnerbait on different occasions. Never the actual fish though.

Use a decent size bait next time, you might catch a bigger snake?

My brother has a white perch and a water snake mounted together. we were fishing in my dad's pond when we noticed a commotion across the pond. the water snake had caught the fish and was dragging it onto the bank.

I've had that happen quite a few times over the years.

Worst snake on water experience was in college. I had a 10' riverhawk with a dry well in the middle seat. Buddy and I were going bass fishing out at Sardis, once we launched the boat and started heading out I opened up the dry well in the middle and a six foot cottonmouth is coiled up in there. I had forgotten to check before we loaded up the boat in the back of my truck and he was pissed.

Needless to say the boat was his. We bailed out and drug the boat back to the shore. Stood on the back of the tailgate and beat his arse with a paddle.

Another time out fishing with the same guy I was being a dumbass and decided to throw my lure at a cottonmouth crossing the cove we were in. Made a "great" cast and popped the snake. He immediately turns and starts swimming for the boat. In my idiocy I get my lure snagged. I'm trying to kick the piece of shite trolling motor in gear, let the tension out of my reel and fight this snake off at the same time. Buddy is in the back laughing his arse off as I engage in a battle of life and death.

Was fishing a private pond one day when I was a kid and catching some nice bream. I put about 10 on a stringer and had them in the water. Fishing slowed a bit and I was walking around trying different spots. Caught another keeper and walked back to the stringer to put him on. Pulled up the stringer and the biggest fricking water snake in the world was latched onto my stringer. fricking thing looked like this to a kid.

I initially dropped it back into the water out of fright when I first saw it, so I pulled it back up again to see if it had gotten off. No, the sonofabitch had at least 3 or 4 bream already in his throat. I said frick this stringer and threw the whole thing in the water.

When I was a teenager I use to wade around in ponds with my stringer tied to my belt loop. Same thing happened. caused some frantic-ness.
