Louisiana's red snapper anglers will gain more time to target their favorite fish in state waters this year, but only three days each week.

The season will open Friday (Oct. 7), and will remain open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until closed by Secretary Charlie Melancon. According to estimates presented by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, that date will likely be around Dec. 2. If the season had been seven days a week, the harvest goal would likely have been met around Nov. 6, the department said.
