My dad has a dilemma where he can buy a stainless gun for 750 or a blued model for 550. He keeps saying that it's stainless or bust but i am kinda interested in cerakoting the barrel and action and just going with it. How much would the cerakote job run and what is the OBs opinion of durability between the two. I would obviously say the hierarchy is of the order stainless cerakote being the best but what comes after that stainless or blued that is cerakoted.

Ballpark prices

Single color Cerakote for barreled action will run $125 - $175

Complete rifle (with stock) around $200-225

Multi color , kryptek type patterns will increase costs

SS is durable if you keep a light coat of oil on it , stainless will rust if neglected

I love stainless myself. Easy to take care of.

just some oil wipes.

I resisted SS for a long time because I was stuck on wood and blued steel
one SS gun later I'm hooked

it's so much easier to keep clean and can take a major licking in the field

Durability wise, unless you are an absolute clutz 100% of the time and banging your stuff around like you are a 3 year old, you will more than likely never know what is beneath the cerakote.

I had a rifle cerakoted and used in a couple matches, banging it around like that 3 year old would on multiple obstacles. Just a couple surface scratches that you could hardly notice.

Only issue I would see is rubbing on a 4 wheeler rack continuously, but a simple rag could fix that issue.
