this was my favorite weekend as a kid, my dad and I had a camp and never missed opening weekend of squirrel season.

Wish I had a mess fried up with thin gravy and rice

I remember biting the shot too

I am ready Saturday Morning 56 degrees on Raccourci island. Has been a tradition with my Dad and I to hunt opening weekend of squirrel season. Then cook a squirrel sauce piquant Saturday evening. Can't wait for my son to join us in this tradition he will be 2 in December.

A favorite memory of mine is eating fried squirrel while watching college football with Keith Jackson announcing. Seems like yesterday.

I'll be chasing them Saturday morning with the little man. Maybe he can remember some of these times like I do.

my step dad always let me skip the Friday before the season started so we could go to the camp. We never killed many but always had a good time. And yes, we always cooked a rice and gravy and listened to college football on Saturday. Those of you with sons, what age did you first let them tag along for a hunt? I have a 5 year old who is getting interested in hunting now and i think he may be ready soon.

Question for your guys:

Can i bring some buck shot with me into a WMA (sherburne) or is that not allowed due to the fact that its only bow season?

Was gonna bring some in case i run up on some pigs while squirrel hunting.

been reading up on it and now I'm not quite so sure...

this is all it says for Sherburne small game...

"Small Game: Same as outside EXCEPT CLOSED Oct. 31 - Nov. 1, Nov. 27-29 and Dec.
4-6, and EXCEPT spring squirrel season will be open May 7-15 only, with or without
dogs. Beagles allowed for rabbits and dogs allowed for squirrel hunting Jan. 18 - Feb.
29. On that portion designated as Small Game Emphasis Area, beagles are allowed for
rabbit and dogs are allowed for squirrel Oct. 3-31, EXCEPT closed Oct. 31, and
training of beagles for rabbit and dogs for squirrel allowed June 1 - Aug. 31. Non-toxic
shot only within waterfowl impoundments."
