Carson's thread on his Advantage Group class has me itching to take some classes I don't have to make real travel plans for (flights/long weekends). What are some others yall would recommend in LA since the classes don't look like they occur too often from Advantage Group without pre-reqs?

This would be my first official training class on better using firearms.

I've taken some of their handgun courses and a lot of their rifle courses. They are a great group of guys and you will learn a lot of great information and techniques. I favor their style a bit more than Advantage but I've only taken one 2-day Advantage class so I can't give a full comparison.

Barf, the guy you're referring to must be Brannon. He doesn't do a ton of classes but brings in excellent special guests to host classes. I'm doing a 3 day handgun class in the fall with Vickers, Pannone, and MacNamara. I wouldn't have the opportunity to do this course this close to home if it weren't for him. I understand he can be a bit abrasive at times but he means well.

While eyes are on this thread...

Any recommendations for Concealed Carry classes in Ruston, LA.

Bought a Shield 9 mm. I've never owned a pistol before and feel I need a basic class first.

Ruston Gun Club has one that sounds like what, in my mind, I need.

quote:

Tuition: $150.00
Total ammunition required: 150 rounds
Prerequisite: willingness to learn
Time: 8:30-4:00

Description: Class Description 100 This class provides the minimum training and certification required for the issuance of the Louisiana Resident Concealed Handgun Permit as well as satisfying the certification requirements fo issuance of the Florida Non-Resident Concealed Carry Permit. This class includes the basic training of the NRA Basic Pistol class and adds the training related to the responsibilities and obligations of persons who decide to avail themselves of the “shall issue” concealed carry permit. The legal aspects of this class are taught by a licensed attorney. Range instruction requires not only the minimum 36 shots at 6, 12, and 15 feet but include instruction in the presentation and utilization of a personal defense firearm in realistic scenarios. Any safe functional handgun can be used for this class however it is recommended that range instruction be conducted with the personal defense firearm you intend to carry.

Ruston Gun Club

I think I need to shoot 150 supervised rounds like their class offers.

What would you guys recommend/advise.

Sounds good. I'd go shooting a few times before going out there. Gives you a chance to learn your gun before you get to the class

Chinese, go on youtube and watch travis haleys video on handgun grip, or Chris costa's video on Hand gun grip. Its one of the most important things in learning to shoot a handgun. Its still the number one thing I see shooters doing wrong when I'm at the range, along with other things, but you can't do much with a gun you can hold on to.

Advantage, would taking yalls gunfighter 1 course be necessary to take the gunfighter 2 if I have already taken a Similar course with a different company?

I would also be about a OB crew doing one of these

Thanks boatless2,

Found them both. Will check them out while holding my unloaded pistol tomorrow. Haven't had a reason to load it yet.
