Also we use mullet for bait Filet both sides and then put the filet on a weighted hook and cast out

Gets further away from the string tenders and catches the big ones buried down in the mud

when it gets hot like this you need to start at dawn and you are done by 9am, or go out around 5pm and go until dark

when its this hot they shut down in hottest part of the day

Pac and grand isle is really slow. Takes a few hours to get about 2 dozen.

Went to Freshwater Bayou this morning and caught 2 dozen without really trying too hard. Made 3-4 runs with some drop nets then headed back home. Mixed size, some large some medium. That’s a way closer drive from Acadia parish, if you have a boat.

How do you do it in Freshwater bayou? Running set nets or traps or is there a dam somewhere you set up on? Thinking about taking kids soon and w/ superior bridge out, FWB is closer to Laf. than Rockefeller. TIA

Never mind, I just reread your post. Sounds like drop nets running from the boat, no dam.

Correct, I’ve always run drop nets from the boat there.

Just a heads up. Not sure which way you are taking but If you are coming down 82 from the east. Last week the superior bridge was out People were having to go a different route

Let me know how it goes. I'm aiming for tomorrow morning.

Crabbing is one of me and my wife's favorite things to do and this is the first time we are bringing our boys with us. Hoping to do decent so they get into it like we do. Just wish I had a boat available so we could get inside the weirs.

PAC is doing well enough.

Talked to a couple locals who think the the crabbing on the impoundment will be non existent in a few years since the my making it all freshwater.

Also see a few a reports of crabs on the beach in Grand Isle. That's always a fun time.

crabs on the beach in grand isle is really not happening. We crab every weekend. It takes a good 3-4 hours to catch 2 dozen.

They just not there yet.

Buddy of mine went grand isle last weekend. Said they would catch about 15 in each trap with just about 2 hours in the water. This was on the beach
