I have had guides tell me both ways, and have never had a problem with busted mouths with a reasonable hook set. What is your opinion? Fact or overblown? I say overblown.

Overblown. It's not like they're paper-mouth sac a lait.

agreed...overblown.
flounder and crappie...those are what i'd call soft mouths. but not trout.

I think it is relative to size. I'm not gonna fling a 5 lb trout over the gunwale and let gravity separate the hook from my fish.
Now I'll do it all day on 12-18" fish

Somewhat overblown but I have had some sizeable holes in the mouths of some that I have landed.

The hook will definitely wallow out a hole in the upper mouth corners as it is just a skin flap there attaching the jaw.

There is definetly some spots where it'll make a hole but theres also some good cartlidge

If using a circle hook I seem to get them in the corner of the mouth. Soft plastics I seem to get more sets on that thick upper lip

Kahle hooks FTW - always in the corner of the mouth which is more rigid than their upper/lower jaws where there are spots of soft skin.
With flounder - I find they have tough mouths, but i've heard that a lot of times they aren't even hooked - they just hold on to the bait until they see the boat.
