This whole topic just pisses me off to no end. If it were a truly recreational season they would make it five saturday/sunday for the 10 days. 10 consecutive days with only one weekend there is no way the rec sector comes close to catching 3+ million pounds.

ETA: time to get a captain's license and run some "trips"

Five weekends would be sweet. This start on a Monday, end on a Thursday crap is just dumb. Thank heavens I just chip in for fuel on a buddy's boat. No way I would own an offshore rig.

Oh and if the 10 days straight doesn't suck enough, I'm also going on a family vacation May 31.

Yep, I'm getting married on June 18th. I guess my bachelor party will be offshore.

frick The Feds, I'm going this weekend.

<------drops the regulation book......

Rec- "10-day season in federal waters with a catch target of 3.234 mp"
Charter- "44-day season in federal waters and divide 2.371 mp.

There is no way Rec's can catch 1,000,000 lbs of fish in 34 less days...... especially when charters are 24/7 and rec is mostly weekend warriors

I guess they are accounting for all the people who go tuna fishing, and stop on the way out and catch a bunch of snappers. Clean offshore, fry while fishing, and stash the rest. Happens often.

Yeah, so this accounts for maybe 1000 lbs. there are so few cabin fishing boats that can fry anyore. this is laughable.

Everyone that fills out a Recreational Offshore Landing Permit needs to lie. Do not report going fishing or catching any snapper. If the fricking feds want to base everything on bullshite stats, we'll give them bullshite stats.

frick the feds.

Supposed to be laughable. The whole situation is a big joke.

You do realize the ROLP is a LDWF program and not federal, right? And that LDWF is using it to develop better harvest statistics than what the Feds have been using. Right?

That they do. For whatever stupid reason. Like it would hurt the snapper to have our dismal season on the last part of amberjack. I guess they are too stupid to realize you catch them in the same damn places using the same tackle.

yep. from my experience it luck to get a AJ over snapper usually. we have done some things that has upped our AJ hook up rate over snapper but it is still dumb luck to me.
