There is a long standing battle between the ignorant buffoons that pretend to be outdoorsmen/women that kill things out of fear and stupidity and those of us that find it dumb to kill a harmless creature that controls the rodent population.
It is futile to preach to the ignorants about ecosystems and how killing helpful snakes is bad for said ecosystem. They'll never get it. On the other hand maybe one will. So preach on!!!

Damn straight! If it's in my house, then it dies! And to hell with all these snake lovers. Yes killing a non-venomous snake just because you hate snakes is irrational, but so is the hate I have for gumps and aggies but I hate them too!
