Should I use mono backing on new spinning reel if it has rubber stop and is “braid-ready”

I have always heard to use mono backing. But this has a decent size rubber section on the spool. I’d say if you break the spool into 4 sections the top and bottom 25% is metal, and the middle 50% is rubber padding. Is that enough or if I go straight braid should I put some tape around top and bottom metal sections too?

It’s a bigger reel that will be used with 80 pound braid on a tuna jigging rod. And if I should do mono backing, what size pound mono would you use to match up with 80 pound braid? TIA

You can go all braid. Considering what you are using it for you will likely need to purchase a bulk spool anyway

The reel says it takes 310 yards of 100 lb. Braid. Not sure what that equates to when going down to 80 lb.

I like using mono backing. If nothing else, it saves me some expensive braided line and gives me an indication of when I'm about to be spooled.

At least 80, and tie it uni to uni with an Albright lock. On a tuna rod, you might actually need those last 50 yards.

Only time I use mono backing is if I don't have quite enough braid on hand to spool a reel to where I like it.

I do only to save braid on my reels with larger spools. However I have a couple reels with smaller spools and I go with straight braid.

Spool it straight. Get the first wraps to cinch on the rubber and you're fine.

Probably be about 300 of 80# too but depends on the brand of reel and line.

Any reason you're opting for 80 over 100? Would you need more line than 310 yds?

More ydg if he spooled with 80 rather than 100. Not sure how much but 80 will have a thinner diameter thus more capacity for the same size spool. Maybe something like 350yds of 80 vs 310 yds of 100

I may stick with 100 for jigging set up. I bought 2 and was going to go with 80, or maybe even 65 for the other bc using it with a popping rod and want to be able to cast farther.
