But never bled. Arrow didn't go through and broke off In the body so that might have something to do with it but still concerning that it didn't bleed. Is this a problem I could encounter more often with these broadheads or is this a pretty freak oocurence. I'm already a little skeptical of expandables

It's just an issue with shooting deer.

My arrow passed through. Deer was quartering to me so exit was back and low. Hole plugged with guts and went 200 yards with very little blood.

Rage are notoriously bad. They just run an awesome marketing campaign. And suckers buy into it.

I've killed tons of deer with 85 grain thunderheads with great blood trsils. I only swapped when minted came out with the one piece fixed. I also loved them. I shot one deer with rage and had similar experience as yours except the deer went further. In rages defense, a lot of people love them and I have seen great blood trails when deer were shot with them

How was the angle of the shot? On a high entry low exit, it you don't get a pass through, the cavity has to fill up with blood before it will come out the entry hole. The good thing is you got the deer. Every shot opportunity will be different and every blood tracking event will be different. We've had deer dead within 50 yds, no blood trail. We've also had deer who dumped what looked like buckets of blood, only to never be found. All part of bowhunting

It's not an issue with the broadhead, it's an issue with shot placement and angle of entry in all likelihood. And I've only shot fixed blade for years fwiw. I have had very similar results shooting Magnus Stinger Buzzcuts. Hell I've had complete a pass through that we never found a speck of blood from.

Exactly this. If your entry would was high and your exit either didn't happen (sounds like it here), was high, or was far back due to extreme angle than the guts can plug it. Low entry and exit wounds are normally what bleed the most, the cavity does fill with blood it just goes out low naturally, high wounds the body cavity has to fill up before blood comes out of the holes due to gravity. So unless you hit near a major blood vessel high, then yeah your blood trail will be affected.

The one issue with a Rage head, is the large cutting diameter directly affects the penetration so you more often will not have a pass through and therefore one less hole for blood to exit through. Furthermore, that exit wound is usually the lowest and the one that bleeds the most.

All I've ever hunted with are rage. It's all shot placement. I've actually only had 1 deer not pass all the way though with a Rage. The ones I've struggled with blood were due to the shot being too far back. I also like the 2 blade rage better than 3 blade.

My biggest complaint with 2 blade rage is people call what is actually cutting width cutting diameter.

It cuts a slit, not a circle. Just happens to be a really big slit.

Yeah I was using the rage hyperdermic broadheads deer was completely broadside at about 35 yards i hit it about an inch behind the shoulder blade in the middle of the deer. Like o said deer ran less than 100 yards and died in a road so found it quick but just no blood must've been a little high from what you guys are saying but I think I might start using fixed broadheads if there's more chance at a blood trail

I don't have any data to back this up, but I know more people who shoot or used to shoot rage than don't. With that much of the market share there is bound to be some bad experiences.

Hunting is one of those rare instances where the positive reviews are as loud as the negative reviews.

untrue.

A huge amount of people shoot rage. There are bound to be some instances of problems, but I would venture that more often than not, people make a less than perfect shot and then blame it on the broadhead.

The hide don't lie. If the head opened up that's all it can do, the rest is placement.

Ah. Could it have been 45-50? Did you range it or at least step it off?

Yep. Also, a lot of people truly suck at finding blood (not referring to OP in this case because I don't know how big of a fella he is).

Here's a tip I have been using for a couple years in helping to recover deer that don't bleed much/at all but you KNOW the shot was probably lethal.

After the hit, while listening for the deers crashing/falling/running, memorize the last spot you actually saw the deer and it's direction.
Then, while still on stand, use a compass app on your phone to get a compass bearing of the direction deer was last seen. That way, when you get down and get turned around on the ground,(which happens) you can go to the spot where you last saw the deer and use that compass heading to figure out the deers direction from there. Obviously this is best used to help discover a blood trail if there is one, but also helps greatly when there is no blood to be found (high angle shot/no pass-thru,etc.)

well I used 30 yard pin and made a pretty damn good shot so I'm guessing it was around 30 yards. Again Idk why people are talking about shot placement obviously that was good since the deer hardly ran it was right behind the shoulder
