Selling Boat

Ok, so I'm selling my boat and want to know the correct protocol.
I need to create a bill of sale with the amount for boat and trailer and have it notarized with seller and buyer present, right?
But, do I have to have the registration updated or can the new owner pay for registration?

He will pay for a new registration when the old one expires. He can use current one with a copy of bill of sale until it does. Wildlife and Fisheries will send him a renewal at the appropriate time. That’s how it went when I bought my boat that was pre owned.

I had to generate the bill of sale when buying used boat. The person I was buying from had a previous bill of sale when he bought it. You will need the document notarized.

That's the thing though, the registration has been expired for a couple of years now. I just haven't had time to use it. So in that case do I need to renew it, or sell it as is?

This was the case when I bought. He hadn't used it in a while and it was expired. No big deal. I just registered it after getting all the paperwork from the sale finalized.

Remember, those trailers are not worth more than a couple hundred at most.

yes i learned this the hard way. always put 100 bucks for the trailer. the rest is the boat/motor.

use a place like ABC title (Just call ahead to make sure the office does that)
Makes life alot easier for both parties, Also for the buyer they will send everything to Wildlife and fishers for the buyer

Bill of sale for boat and trailer notorized and signed by all 3 people, cost of boat is insignificant but trailer always put a $100 or so.
You gotta sign over and notorize the trailer title for him to get a license plate too. Didn't realize this til the dmv were their normal @$$hole selves
