Well it's that time of year again & i am once again selling my boat motor (merc 250 proxs). I have it posted on several different sites. I normally have no problem selling it but for some reason this year i am getting some crazy calls.
I have the ads posted in plain english. Price is clearly stated, shaft length, year model, hrs, location, everything. ..
Top 3 are as follows:
Email: please call me back, very interested.
Call the guy & he says that $13,500 is more than he is looking to spend. I tell him that i am pretty firm on the price as this is a 2015 motor with only 40hrs and 2 years remaining on the warranty. He then offers me 5k. Seriously bro, 5k???
Next guy.
Email: is the motor still available? Please call me back if so.
Call and he asks for all the info that is posted in the ad. Then he says he is really looking for an older motor & this one is out of his price range.
Ok, so wtf are u emailing me for???
Next guy.
Email :
Do u still have the motor?
Reply:
Yes
Reply: please call asap, very interested.
Call and we go through all the info in the ad yet again. He then asks where i am located (which is posted in the ad), i tell him and he says..."well man this is one hell of a deal but u are a little to far away from me". Guy lives 2 hrs away!
Why in the heck are u gonna bother respondingto an ad if u really have no intention of buying the item?
Rant over...

Selling stuff online these days brings out the weirdos. Sounds like maybe they are hoping you decide to drop the price by a few grand just from talking to you. Or they are scammers from the get go.
ETA: you buy a new boat motor every year?

Yes, sponsorship deal. I repower every year. Buyer always gets a hell of a deal.

My favorite are the people who go back-and-forth then tell you they'll take it but they're offshore and will be back in a couple weeks.
