I am going slay some rats in a cpl weeks and im wondering what I want to bring. I have a CMR-30 22mag that ill use if it tests out good (havent shot it yet). But i have my scorpion that I love to shoot but is that 9mm out the carbine going to work. Rats should be close under 100yards...can get cheep 9mm...would ball 9mm work on rats or needs to be HP? Just thinking...

i bring either (or all):

-22LR
-17HMR
-22mag

Why is that out of curiosity? I have only punched paper with it or a 9mm. Figure around 20c a round like a 22 mag.

I was trying to find a reason to blast something with it. I have the other 3 I'll probably bring too to mess around with.

Shoot the 9. Its way more fun than 22lr and cheaper than 22mag. Why waste HP? FMJ them rats.

Its all about the fun. PEW PEW PEW

You'll be fine with that. You buy guns to shoot and have fun with, that's what. Neutria shoot is all about.

That's what I'm thinking. Shots should be 50yards or less. Just wondering if anyone has done it and if cheep 115gr fmj did the deed. I would think so.

Where you going to do this? Just curious?

They are everywhere in Manchac.

I don't see the issue with shooting rats with a 9mm FMJ. Hell, I just decked out my Scorpion pistol (KAK Brace) with kill light for night stalking. Of course I'll have my AR on my side just in case...but there's only so many times an animal can take hits from a 9mm. Ha.

In the marsh somewhere around Lafayette. I never been so I don't know yet. Going with people.

I'm going to bring my scorpion, cmr-30, s&w 15-22, and my savage a17. If I can I'll try out all 4

Are you collecting the tails for the $5 bounty? The reason I ask is because if so you aren't going to want to shoot nutrias 100 yards in the marsh. That's why we use shotguns and shoot the ones we can easily reach to get the tail.

We go with the trapper on the same land as the duck lease we hunt on. Usually we would shoot 200+ in a weekend. This year I didn't make the nutria weekend, but the numbers were way down. They struggled to get 80. I guess that's what happens when you shoot 2000 rats on about 3000 acres a year for 5 to 6 years. But man those 200 rat days, now that was fun. Downsouthdave knows all about it, He even learned why you don't walk on the marsh.

Bring the scorpion and your .22 or whatever else you want to use. If the scorpion doesn't perform like you want switch.

I can ring steel targets with all my 9mm handguns at 50 yards without having to hold over. It's a relatively flat shooting round within 100 yards, plus you have a little bit more barrel length than the average handgun.

CP3 shot some of my steel with his scorpion at 100 yards and didn't skip a beat. Using just a cheap vortex red dot it's a pretty accurate little carbine. Should do the job just fine.

I agree with everyone else that there's no need to waste money shooting them with hollow points. It might kill more effectively but they're just nutria so who cares?

We will probably keep some tails...the ones that are not 100 yards away Thats why im ok with the cost per round of the 9's and the 22mags. I should be able to recoup the ammo cost of anything. I see some PMC 9MM 115gr JHP that are cheap like the ball ammo around .21 vs .18 or so for ball. I know HP not needed...but why not bring the pain on the varmint

Speaking of bringing the pain...the triple threat

True, and respect for that. I doubt you reload, but you can get Hornady XTP for pretty cheap and that would be a good hunting round.

That's one hell of a trio!

Any reason for having the sights backwards on the MP15-22?

Freedom has some reloads with those 115gr GR-xtps for .34/rnd. I looked at those too becasue it would be a good SD round as well I guess. And I can put 14 of them into 1 rat and the tail still covers the cost

115, 124 or 147gr out of that 16" barrel...I dont recall the twist rate off hand.

I had just tossed them on for the pic. I took the red dots and scope off the rifles and put the open sights back on. I am going to get those sighted in...I dont know that ill need the other scopes but if so I'll pop them back on.
