where would I find the best price? also, I've never ordered a gun off the internet, how is the background check handled,? TIA

Shop around. Palmettostatearmory.com is a great resource. Impactguns.com is another. Background check is handled by the FFL transfer if I'm not mistaken.

You would have to get the gun shipped to a local FFL dealer, and he would perform the background check. They usually change anywhere from $20 to $40 to perform the background check.

I assume you're looking for a M77?
Online is easy, you just have to figure the FFL transfer fee in the end price. My last one was $30.
But you dont pay tax either, so it might work out even.

I'm not familiar with this model, it's a replacement for my son, I think he called it a 7mm 08, stainless barrel, stock looks like wood with a very pronounced grain.

Gotcha, thought you were talking about 7 mag.
I've looked at a lot of Rugers, and i would think it has to be a Hawkeye as well. The Laminate stainless is a great looking gun.
