I had a previous post discussing but the title is now a bit misleading. So I got a few questions for the OB. I purchased the savage 111 300 win mag yesterday. Went out and shot it today. Put about 6-8 rounds through it, gun shoots well and was able to get a decent grouping in just those few shots. However, on the 2nd cycling to put another round in the chamber the magazine, the round wants to jump out and it won't rack into the chamber correctly. It usually tries to jamb. I just purchased this gun from cabelas, should I bring it back to them? I figured it is a magazine issue, what should I do here? A bit frustrated that this is happening. I grew up shooting a Remington 710 .270, which may be one of the worst rifles on the market. I never had this issue with that rifle.

What says the OB?

Yeah, originally i thought that was the problem. But, I have it a good cleaning and still had the same problem. It seems like the spring in the magazine is way to strong.

It could possibly be the wrong mag. Call and see if Cabelas has another one to compare it to before you make the drive. If it's different, call the manufacturer and get them to send a new one

Just bought the same rifle in .270 for my wife and have the exact opposite problem. It doesn't want to chamber a new round unless the bolt is yanked back and slammed forward. Seems like the magazine doesn't fit very tight into the frame.

At times you have to manipulate your gun to operate as it should. If it seems the the spring is to strong, adjust it. Have you looked at the shoulders that retain the cartridge in the magazine? Maybe they aren't protruding enough to hold the spring force. Look at all variables before adjusting anything. Good luck with it, I'm sure once you get it setup you'll love it

I wonder if they are mixing up the magazines for different calibers when putting them on the shelf. Where did you purchase yours?

Simmons Sporting Goods in Bastrop. Watched them take it out of the box.

I know this is probably not your issue, but how many rounds are you loading in the mag? I looked the gun up on Bud's and it says "ammo capacity 3". So I'm not sure if that means 3 in the mag or 3 total. Usually if it's 3 in the mag it will say 3 + 1. Even if you aren't trying to stuff too many, maybe someone else did and screwed up the mag.

Yeah, I will look over the magazine. As for the capacity it will only house 3 rounds.
