No longer will I be forsaken to wind up string and adjust strap weights during a cold rain. Happened twice this weekend.

I'm making the move to all TX rigs...

I've got my weights, but what were the best options for line and crimps?

Heavy mono, weed eater line? Wasn't their a package with the tool and crimps?

Homeboy here needs some links...

Cabelas sells a big spool of line and crimps. I buy swivels and weights from fishing stores, end up cheaper than buying branded decoy weights

I just bought the crimps for the size mono I used - 300# I think - and used normal pliers to crimp down on it. You don't need a perfect connection on the crimp and I didn't feel like spending the extra $25 on crimping pliers.

Honestly, if this is just something you enjoy sitting around and tinkering with, then have at it!

If not, the pre rigged stuff is totally worth it and aren't that expensive.

That's probably right then. It's been a minute since I made my rigs. Heavier is better. If the mono is too small, itll have tangling and coiling problems.

Did you order crimps online, or does Academy have them?

I found 100 aluminum double sleeve crimps for 400 lb. mono for $18 online. Does that sound about right? That'll do 50 rigs since I need 2 per rig.

I bought crimps and decoy line at academy. Used pliers for the crimps. Kind of a PITA but didn't cost anything.

I went as cheap as possible. Yellow weed eater string, 1 1/2 ounce egg weights ($.99 for a pack of 3) and a couple packs of $1.99 crimps, both from Academy. The crimps were a little large for the string, but I used a pair of cutting pliers and squeezed the middle of them to make smaller, then crimped with the cutting pliers.

Snap-swivels tend to get snagged in the decoy bag, so I just use crimps. Nothing to snag on.

Walmart and Academy both sell the thick black rubber line also if you wanna go that route.

I got mine at BPS, I don't think the academy in Shreveport had crimps when I was looking. 100 for $18 sounds about right. And I'm not sure what your plan is, but I prefer the decoy to slide as opposed to the weight sliding.

This, with the exception of wrapping the mono 3 times on the "finger loop".
Yup. And, fwiw, instead of egg sinker, I like bank sinkers since they already have a molded in loop:

I've got dozens of lead strap weights. I'm just going to tight roll them up from the end.

That'll work too. I did that on some of mine. They get a little more tangled because the strap weights catch on the other cords but it's manageable.

That's what I was thinking, BPS saltwater selection is far superior (Albeit more expensive I'd bet) to Academy in Shreveport.

We have about half of ours Texas rigged and looking to convert the rest.

I was looking to see how much Cheaper it would be doing it myself but with having to buy the weights it wasn't gonna be much cheaper than buying the pre rigged Gamewinner brand.

Anybody know where to get weights on the cheap?

Is this the more desirable way to do it?

Im about to cut mine down and will re-loop and crimp.

I was just looking at how to videos, and his method is what I'm going with. I just heaven't seen the finger loop reinforced, and not sure what the benefit is. A more simple stand alone loop seems like it will be fine. That's how my partners tx rigs look.
