Removing old door hinges...what ya got?

I purchased an older house a week ago and the fiancé has me doing a few honey dos. I am in the process of painting one of the bedrooms. Well when trying to remove the doors to paint the trim and put new hardware on the old doors I noticed the screws had all been painted over. I got the doors off but still have the hinges in the frame. The flat head screws have been stripped and can't bust them loose. Any ideas on what to try? I'm guessing I will have to tap them out with a drill?

Use a dremel and a cutting wheel to grind a groove in the head of each screw then use a flat head screw driver.
-or-
Drill out the screws with a drill bit the same size or slightly larger than the screw. Using cobalt drill bits makes it much faster. Low to medium rpm on drill and light pressure. Let the bit do the work. Then fill the holes in the door with a hardwood dow and wood glue and redrill pilot holes before reinstalling hardware.

Try hammering a flathead into the slot and then put a lot of pressure on them when you're backing them out. When you get them out a little bit, clamp some vice grips on them. Or, you could get some screw extractors

AS BP said. But before doing that, scrap all paint off the screw heads first.

Like someone already said, get yourself a couple of those screw extractors. With an old house you will probably need them quite a few times.

Do this and what BP said
Another option is to get a cheap junk chisel and try to recut the groove. Then get use an impact screwdriver to get them out, either manual or electric.

What the second guy said. Little off topic but if you want to keep hinges place them in a slow cooker with water and a some dawn soap for a few hours and the paint will come off.
