I have a rifle to have rebarreled and was wondering if anyone has any experience with a 280AI. It is a long action (not a magnum) and so my choices will be based off of the 30-06 case

Ever think of reboring?

That said, I have no experience with 280AI, but have had three 280's, and currently own two. It's a great caliber for what I use it for, which is limited to sub 200 yard shots at whitetails.

one of my favorite cartridges. it frickin kicks arse. 7mm mag performance with 30-06 recoil, yes please. just a pain in the arse if you don't reload since Nosler is the only major manufacturer that puts out a factory round (140gr). You can always shoot 280rem out of it too if you cant find ammo

I've no personal experience w/ the 280 AI, but ballistically it's a very attractive round. It'll basically run about 100 fps shy of the 7 Rem Mag which puts it in pretty good company. I've had custom work done on guns using barrels from McGowen and Hart. Your gunsmith will probably have a short list of custom barrel makers he likes.

I don't have any Pac-Nor barrels, but from what I've read they're VERY well respected. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Pac-Nor barrel if it was in the price range I was looking for.

Check out the Mcgowen's sister companies. The barrel outletand Carbon six they use mcgowen blanks for both steel and the carbon fiber barrels but turn around is faster. Not sure about a full rebarrel though
