Really large leaves on crepe myrtle

So, the crepe myrtle in front of my house had a late summer growth that produced some really large leaves on the new parts. The leaves are literally about 4 times the size of the normal leaves and they seem to be a softer, less rigid leaf. Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas what caused it?
