This guy has been hanging around the house and diving at the crows. About the size of a kite or a kestrel. Cruises around like a predatory type bird. Always perches on the highest limb in the yard. Appears to be black and white, but has a black head - unlike the kites I’ve seen.

And yes, the photo was taken with a potato.

Already ruled out velociraptor.

Bruh, kites are almost twice the size of kestrel.

Hard to say from that photo, but it looks like a kite. I've seen kites mess with crows, but don't really see hawks messing with them much--normally it's the other way around.

My best guess from the photo is Mississippi Kite. But that's just an impression. The dark head - maybe a late juvenile bird. Or just the head is shadowed.

American Kestrels are 9-12", MS Kites 12-15". Kites are noticeably bigger but not double the size as someone mentioned.

I just grabbed my bird guide off the shelf and went off what it showed, which is reported as the "average" size: 9" for a kestrel, 14" for a kite.

So double might have been a bit much, but 5" is a big size difference (that's what she said).

Mississippi Kite. They've migrated in and are pretty active right now. Can be quite acrobatic in flight when hunting.

Yep. I’ve been seeing Kites a lot lately. I have two of them nesting at my camp.

The strange thing is I see the crows kind of “attacking” them.

I also have a large Barn Owl there that has the most terrifying screech.
