quick question on creole nature trail, firearm carry

Haven't been there in y years. Bringing the kiddos. Should i carry my large sidearm for gators or anything crossing the piers? Not so much for me but for the kids. Am i being ridiculous? Wife says so....thoughts?

I i carry my cc . Today I'm wearing holster and my large frame 45. More accurate farther out
