I know you want to troll at a speed between 1.3-2.3 mph, but do most guys use their trolling motor or just bump their motor in gear? I would imagine your trolling motor would get run down pretty quickly.
I was going to go today, but the reported 3-5' waves turned me off. I may go out tomorrow.

Yeah I was just talking to someone about trying to make a trip in the next couple weeks. I'm not familiar with Pontchatrain. I usually fish Grand Isle/Fourchon and have started learning Dularge.
I was just told something about that even with putting the boat barely into gear that it may be too fast. I was told something about dragging a drift sock of a bucket behind the boat to slow it down. I'll have to do a little more research.

Put the boat in gear and drag a 5 gallon bucket behind tied off to the rear cleats. Depending on your boat (weight especially) you may need to use 2 buckets.
I'm saying buckets if you don't want to go buy a drift sock.
Drag your traps about 30 yds behind the boat and watch the rod tips.
Have fun, be safe and good luck.
Tight lines!
