We were campers back when the kids were younger. Now our kids are grown and have their own kids. They’re about to start camping and one of my kids bought one today. Stabilizer bars were a thing back in the day but I’m being told it’s no longer a necessity. Is this true?

I have never owned a bumper pull without load equalizing bars. Maybe if it’s a super light weight but the 8,000 lb pig I have now definitely needs them as it drops my F250 on its arse without them. On my third trailer had two bumper pulls and a fifth wheel

His Ram truck didn’t squat. Camper dry weight is 4800

I’ve seen trailers do all kinds of weird things on the road. So yeah, I’m always running trailers with weight distribution hitches that have the anti-sway.

You still need them. I use equalizer and it’s worked well.

1/2 ton or 3/4 ton truck? Did it sway while driving? The weight D hitch lets you fix the swaying fairly easy. Is everything level when hooked up?

That’s a plus, does he have a brake control on the truck?

Let him roll with it for a while, he can always add the wd later.

Depending on tongue weight he may not need them with a 4800 lb dry weight. Mine is 8,000 dry and has a 1200 lb tongue weight. If I put a side by side in the garage and reduce the tongue weight it tows great but most of the time we just run with kayaks in the garage.

Have them but don't use them.

My camper weighs 9600# but the F tree fiddy has enough arse to handle it.

Now, when I had my F250 I always used them.

Much better to have them when that 18 wheeler buzzes you going 80mph on Interstate. Minimum a friction brake but stabilizers work better.

Buy 6,000lb Equalizer brand stabilizer bar system. Equalizer is the best on the market.

He needs them. It’s ~500$. Make that investment now over totaling his truck, the camper, and someone else’s car later.

I've got this hitch here. Guy I bought my cargo camper from gave it to me with the trailer.

It's pretty amazing and easy as shite to install and run as well as being able to backup with it tensioned.

Equalizer is the gold standard.
Hensley or Pro pride is the platinum.

Weighsafe is new but moving up in the rankings.
