So I know you can put your gun in a locked case and turn it in. Then pick up when you land. 2 questions:

Can loaded magazines be in the case with the gun?

If the gun is not compliant in CA will I get in trouble by bringing it in?

The reason I am asking is because I am going to be in NOLA for 3 days before we fly out. Don't want to leave it in the vehicle while I am gone for 5 days.

I'm going to say yes on question #2. Assuming you are stopped by LEO and in possession of a firearm that is "illegal" then its going to be an issue.

I only fly 1-2 times every yr or so but when I do I leave mine in the car everytime. Just put in glove box or under your seat.

If you are in a car and worried about someone breaking in, leave it the trunk under the carpet in the spare tire compartment. If you are in a truck, it's tougher to hide, but it can be done.

No. Ammo cannot be loaded, but can be in the locked case in it's original packaging.

I don't think the airport or TSA will stop you but I wouldn't chance much in that whacko state. Not sure if the "safe passage" law applies like when you're in a car travelling through states that don't honor your CCL.

Also, remember that if you check a bag, you can place your locked case in your checked luggage and it typically comes out on the carousel at baggage claim so you don't have to go to the baggage dept to pick it up.

The "Safe Passage" law applies to the transportation of firearms, not the ability to carry them concealed. As part of the law the firearm and ammo must be contained and not accessible or locked up. Law Link

You will absolutely get in trouble if caught. The ban would be useless otherwise...
I would either leave it in the car or don't bring it with you that day.

Right, I wasn't referring to ability to conceal, but rather not having to take special precaution when travelling through those states like you mentioned.

Still not sure if that applies when flying.

I've left mine waaaayy under the seat every time I've flown out of MSY. No problems.

If I were parking in the French Quarter I would be more hesitant
