My father, uncle, cousin and I take a 2 day quick trip once or twice a year to get away from women and attempt to catch fish. The last few years we've been to lake bruin with minimal success. Ya know "they left them biting yesterday". We're looking to try somewhere new. Only real requirement is we need to stay 3 hours or less from gonzales/pville. I've been tasked with finding the next place so I turn to the trusty OB. Any recommendations?

Lake St. John or Concordia have lakeside cabins and are just inside the 3 hour distance plus they are close enough you can trailer from one to the other easily if you need to change your luck.

I was actually just looking at both of those. I'm not familiar with either so didn't know if they were better options than bruin.

I brought up poverty point but my uncle, for whatever reason, was under the impression that there wasn't much fishing there.

Poverty Point Reservoir is home to some of the largest white perch in the state and numerous bass. They have extremely nice cabins on the lake also.

Check into Lake D'Arbonne also.

If you can do without the sac a lait, I'd be in Venice. Crazy thing is the bream have been ridiculous down there in the Duck area. Nobody fishes for them but they're such a hindrance I wish someone would get them out of my way.
Of course the bass are right with um

I would put Darbonne lake as one of the most consistent places to catch white perch in the state all year round. Other places will be better at different times, but you can always catch them there

Bass - don't know, don't care

The lake is full of catfish also, fun for noodles and/or rod and reel

State park cabins are nice and affordable and have a fish cleaning station

You can go out to the main lake and fish or ease up to the north and get into some bayous and more scenic areas

That could be Toledo if you drive fast enough.

We discussed Toledo, but I think it'll have to wait. I'd like to have a little more time to fish it than this trip is going to allow.

We've never fished Bruin so can't compare them but we can usually scrape up a few bass with out much difficulty at St Johns and Concordia. Never Sacalait fished but most docks have brush piles sunk out nearby and if the positioning of the patio chairs doesn't make their location evident you can find them with sonar. Fishing wise I fair better on St John, and there's also a restaurant near the cabins.

Don't waste your time on Concordia or St John this time of year.
