for surf fishing ? I assume hook the trout down through both lips then through loop above float. Do you stick the needle in the sand or tie it to your belt?

What way keeps the sharks from dragging you off into the deep?

Anywhere there's sharks, I'd highly suggest a cooler.

They do make pop off belt stringer combos in case your catch gets caught again.

Make sure you keep a few shrimp in your pocket while you wade in the ocean.

The float end is to keep the fish off the bottom so crabs don't eat your fish. You will need a small landing net. Get one of those pool floating noodles and cut a piece about 6" long, slide it up on the net handle. Added a small rope to that and let it float away from you.

I had always tied the ends to me and only one time had a shark come to feed.

Hold trout with one hand, with other hand start spike through top lip and down through bottom lip - your fish will be alive when you get back to the sand.

If you spike going up through bottom lip they'll be belly up and dead in no time.

Floating do-net is an option but I'm told the big bull sharks don't care about that.

Get a 15' stringer, do not tie to yourself, and don't let your fish swim next to you the whole time and you'll be fine.

Sharks are pretty much there every time.

Stick point in belt. Watch out for sharks, crabs and dolphins.

I have one of the ego floating landing nets already. I tried using one of the floating rings with the net in it for the past few years and it was kind of a mess.

I guess what I'm not understanding is do you just pass it through the lips of the fish and then secure it to something. Or do I pass the end of the line through the loop above the float.

I just pass it through the gill and then through the mouth.

then I hook it to my belt.

only one time have I been bothered by a shark and I swatted it with my rod and it went away.

it is certainly easier to land fish with that, but sharks chew thru the net too.

My pops and I were surf fishing GI a couple of years ago, and a dolphin ripped his stringer off his belt and took off. We do not tie them too us, based on previous experiences with sharks, but that was pretty scary until he realized it was a dolphin and not a 6-7' sharks. That's a big dark body seen under the water.

Don't use a stringer, use the floating net that has a Styrofoam ring around the top. After you catch a fish you just drop them in the net, twice as fast as the stringer and the best part is the fish will stay alive and fresh. When you string them through the gills they die and when hot I believe the meat begins to degrade.
