Buy Reel Magic spray. A rinse with hose water and a spray of Reel Magic has kept my Calcutta alive for 20 years without ever taking it apart for a clean. I also have a Symmetry 4000 going on 12 years old running like a champ with the same treatment. I can't tell you how many times those poles have been submerged in salty Venice water.

ETA: If you need a shop in the future, Professional Sport Shop at 920 Julia St does some great work. They have fixed a couple of my broken reels

Just rinse it...it doesn't matter if it was in the water for 5 minutes or 5 hours, its all the same.

Friend of mine just told me about them. Apparently he sells used reels that people just never picked up after he repaired them. Gonna look into buying something beginnerwise for trolling or offshore when I try and go on a nice CALM day this summer.

Was fishing a few years back at the tressles in lake Pontchartrain. Random spot, My brother in law lost his ron n reel. Right off the boat into the lake. Gone.
We kept fishing that day moving down the tressles. Hours passed and on the way in we hit a few spots. My brother in law snags something and reels it in. He caught his fishing pole he lost hours earlier. We had no idea we were even close to were he lost it, if we were at all.
