I have CZ rifles and love them. VERY ACCURATE and Very Quiet with a Supressor.
I just don't have any experience with the pistols.

But, I like their rifles. Especially the Safari ones. They are priced about like a high end Remington 700.

Doesn't help with Pistol Selections though...

Is this a first time pistol purchase or just looking to add one to the collection?

If it is the first

Glock. End of discussion

If not, then what everybody else said.

You're in Oxford, so drive up to South Haven and look around for the best prices. I don't like Hunter's Hollow for pricing. I can't remember where I bought my CZ from, but it was in South Haven.

Edit for YOUR/YOU'RE LOL

ETA: Walther Article.

What does this mean?

The Walther P99AS is a truly unique striker-pistol. If you have trained your whole life with a double action/single action pistol, the P99 is a 21st Century update to this approach, and if you don’t believe in the Glock methodology (I hope I’m not being too transparent here), the P99 should be your choice.

A CZ P-07 can be had for $399 at Academy. I haven't tried that one, but I like CZs and it has gotten good reviews. It feels nice in the hand and while a polymer pistol, is a bit more of a conventional double/single action with a decocker instead of the Glock/Springfield SD operation.

I think what he is talking about is the Double Action to Single Action trigger pull. The Walther P99 has a decocker on the top of the slide that takes the trigger pull to 11 pounds uncocked (like a double action revolver). After the first shot the P99 is "cocked" and the trigger pull drops to a very light 3.5 pounds (like a revolver with the hammer cocked). I don't have a PPQ, but I read the article as it having a hair trigger after being cocked (1.5 pounds).

On a Glock the trigger pull is always a constant.

I like the P99 trigger, I am much more accurate and comfortable with it. Although I can squeeze the tension out of a Glock in my sleep without it firing....

What is your level of experience/skill with pistols? Will it be your first pistol?

It would be my first pistol but I shoot pistols a good bit. Been a hunter for as long as I can remember so I have a stock pile of shotguns and a few rifles.

I'm a CZ fan. I own a CZ P01, and its my favorite pistol. The thing is incredibly accurate, and it just fits my hand like it is an extension of it. Insanely comfortable. Its right up there with Glocks as being one of the most reliable pistols in the world. The CZ 75 is the full size model, and if you do a little research on it, you'll see that at one time it was in use by more police/govt/military agencies world wide than any other pistol. It comes in right, left, ambi, decocker, standard safety, and single action only models. There are competition options, stainless options, alloy frame options, etc. etc.

I also own a Browning Hi-Power. Can't say enough good things about this full size (and heavy) gun. Its the 1911 of the 9mm world.

I have a Glock 26 as well. SOLID pistol with an incredible amount of accessories and aftermarket items available for it. A Glock will never let you down, but some people do not enjoy the way they shoot.

I've fired and been impressed with all of the Sig and Springfield XD models, and the HK USP. I haven't owned any though.

In a .22, I'd recommend Walther P22 as a pure plinker, or perhaps a Ruger Mark III or Browning Buckmark as a plinker/hunter.

Good Luck.

The P99AS does one thing a little different. In a traditional DA/SA, the first shot is DA with a long trigger pull, subsequent shots are SA with a short trigger pull. The P99AS adds an "Anti Stress" mode where you have a light trigger pull of the SA, but a long trigger travel of the DA... on your first shot. (As I understand it)

Yeah... its always like "half cock" or something... right?

There are some solid posts here along with some opinions.

I will stand by my suggestion of Glock. For a pistol that you are going to have multiple purposes for there is no better choice.

There are plenty pistols that do different
things better than a Glock but none that are more versatile.

It may not be the sexy choice but Glock for the win.

The XDM's are probably out of the price range you listed depending on which model you want. There is nothing wrong with the original XD's for under $500. Glocks as well.

I would have to side with the glock. It never jams.

Very good handgun.
