I'm planning a trip to the before stated park in Arkansas. I have a few questions I hope the OB can answer.

When is a good time of year to go? I was thinking either February or April.

Also, length of stay? A weekend enough?

I was hoping to maybe to do some fishing on the lake. I normally bream and white perch fish. Will I catch anything during the months I am thinking?

Other than hiking, what are some cool things to do around the park? Any must see or do things? Things or situations to avoid?

Thanks in advance for the help. I'm about to hit the hay, I plan on checking replies when I wake up. So, apologies in advance for slow responses from me.

Other than hiking or fishing? Nothing really. Going to different roadside tourist stores. April. Weekend is plenty if you are going to fish half the time. Maybe 3 days would be better. One good restaurant that I know of.

April is a good month, nice and cool. There are some caves around, a waterfall, turtle rocks, etc that you can hike to. If you spend 3-4 days there you'll see most of it.

Agree with all of this. I've spent a lot of time up there. You really need to hike the canyon and turtle rocks if you can.

If it happens to be dry when you go, the bottom of Cedar Falls turns into an amazing display of natural acoustics. I used to strap an acoustic guitar to my back and hike it just to go down there and play. It was like playing in an old world cathedral.

If the trip isn't booked already then look into the Jasper/Buffalo River area. Lots of senic cabins to rent, waterfalls to hike to and fishing on the river. Much more enjoyable trip to me anyway!

Agree I liked the Jasper area, great place to visit and anything along the Buffalo and White Rivers are excellent places to vacation. Definitely recommend renting a canoe for at least a half day trip. They have plenty of places to rent boats and the employees can suggest good spots to drop you off and pick you up.

I stayed at Petit Jean one time and really enjoyed it as well. We rented a cabin and just hiked the local area and enjoyed the scenery. Great place to visit.

Agree with one of the posters above that April would be a good month to visit.
