Outboard Trouble ( fuel starvation)

i have a 90 yamaha 2 stroke that runs fine for about an hour or so, then will run out of gas.( i know this because i have a clear fuel filter and noticed it was empty when this happens.) the bulb will be prettty dry as well. if i pump it a few times, the motor will strart back up and run for 30 minutes or so and it will run out of gas again.
WTF is the problem? I have changed the fuel hose and the water fuel seperator. The only other thing i can think of is that the tank is not venting. Im thinking this because I cant find the dam vent... anyone have any other speculations on what this problem might be?

Sounds like a non-venting issue ... had this happen to me a mud diver found his way into my vent hose

When I was in HS twenty years ago, we had one that would do just about the same- after trying new fuel lines, draining inboard tanks, changing check valves, we finally took it to the mechanic who "did a carb job" on it.
Now, at that time, I have no idea what he did- I suspect they were gummy and dirty. But it solved the problem and the boat still runs to this day- 1988 model on a 16' McKee.
If you've tried everything you can do, bring it to someone who knows those.

I may end up doing that, but I hate to be defeated. I may buy a carb kit and take it down myself. and when i screw that up i will take it to a boat shop.

when you changed the fuel line did you also change the primer bulb?

NOPE, used that old one. Good catch, I'll change that out.

Yeah I think your on the right track. Change the primer bulb, as it may be cracked and sucking air. If that doesnt work, run it with the gas cap loose and see if its a venting issue.

I'd put money on a venting issue. Check the vent for Mud Dobbers they tend to make nests in the most inconvenient places!
