I might head to Texas this weekend to check out a used boat from an individual. I know I will need a bill of sale for the boat and motor and a seperate bill of sale and title transfer on the title on the trailer. The boat is 10 years old, so am I correct in stating no sales tax will be collected? How hard is it to get the boat re registered from TX to LA via LDWF?

I did same thing in the Spring. You'll get 3 titles. One for boat, motor, and trailer. You'll need to go to DMV for trailer. Need a bill of sale notarized with address of seller on there proving Tx residence. You can go to LDWF website and down load some forms. I called them to make sure I was doing it right. You'll have to mail boat and motor info to them. It's kind of long process, especially if you've never done that, but I got it done. You have to have the notary seal. No way around that I don't think.

Since Governor Douchebag Democrat found another revenue stream to tax.

Just FYI, I bought a new boat from Mississippi on June 3rd this year. I had all my tax paperwork submitted to the state by July 1. I am still waiting on the state to finalize so I can register the boat with wildlife and fisheries. They say they are backed up because of all the used boat paperwork.

thanks for the replies. Am I right that a boat over 10 years old does not have to have taxes paid on it? I know the trailer does for sure.

what was the sales price and how old was the boat? I am hearing that a minimum price and boat over 10 years old does not pay sales tax.
