I need to top my ar with some sights. I'm looking to use it for misc plinking to start off then maybe a scope later.

Should I look at flip up sights to start off or some sort of red dot? Just looking for something serviceable.

If you want irons, Troy and magpul are reasonably priced. KAC makes great irons but the are expensive. For red dots, Vortex and Primary arms are reasonably priced and aimpoint is great but pricey. I would personally go the red dot route but I also have back up irons. Red dot is easier to see and the ease of use is better than on irons.

I suggest these flip up sights

I have an Eotech mounted on mine with back up magpul flip up sights. I prefer the eotech and will so add a magnifier for distance later

I put the magpul flip ups and a Primary Arms 3x on mine, both have been very solid for me

I have both the eotech mag and red dot. I love the combination.
