Opinions sought on Remington 770 rifle/scope combo

Academy has them on sale for $279 in both .30-06 and 270 calibers. Not a huge hunter, maybe 2-3 times a year. Is this one of those "you get what you pay for" scenarios or is this a decent rifle? TIA !!

I would look at the Ruger American Rifle or a Savage Axis combo over the 770. The 770 would probably be fine for 2-3 times a year but the others are a much better value for around the same price.

I realize money might be tight but I would continue saving to purchase a higher scoring rifle. That 770 is bottom of the barrel. Save up some coin and buy something you will be proud to own 20 years from now.

I here ya. Cabela's has a Savage Model 11 Hunter XP combo for $439. I have read pretty good reviews on that rifle. It's for my son, so that is probably the direction I will go.

I'm a Remington fan and I hate the 770.

Boycott or not the 770 is not a quality firearm and they should be embarrassed they put it on the market. Remington built a strong reputation over the decades and with moves such as this the reputation has already taken a hit.

The 770 is a POS - horrible shot groups too. Just ask to see one at Academy. Cycle the bolt a few times, and you'll see for yourself. I've shot at least 5 of them in different calibers, and they all have crappy, hard to operate bolts. The bolt locked up on 3 of them after firing a shot. I had to bang on it just to get the spent case out.
The Ruger American is a MUCH better product.

I've never used one so I have no opinion. But it's enjoyable to hear people rip it to shreds.

Remington is coming out with a 783 model. Supposed to fit between the 770 and 700 if you want to check it out.

Alot of plastic on that gun but 2 or 3 hunts a year you don't need much more than that
