I am too pissed to even tell my story but scope the deer back in and if he moves blast them again and then repeat. I am sure everyone on here has a personal or camp story about buck that comes alive and hauls arse or something. I just learned the hard way

Let him lay and go back after daylight to find blood and find your deer. Have a few drinks and enjoy yourself. Everyone has done it.

You didn't poke him in the eye with the gun barrel?

Second time this year my daughters deer being first

My first deer was nothing but a Nannie, all the old men were telling stories at the campfire the night before about shooting deer and then not finding them and with those stories fresh in my head, this slick head comes out at about 25 yards, I make a perfect shot on her right front shoulder with OO buck, as she is falling to her knees I shoot her again, and as she is thrashing I fire my last shell. Everybody thought I missed because of the 3 shots but I patterned her 3 times in the front shoulder.
Looking back, I am glad I had a plug because the only reason I stopped shooting is because I had to reload

Lost one last year that laid there for about 15 minutes. I got down & drove my rzr up to where he was suppose to be & he gone. Never did find him

Could be a lot worse.
In the mid-1908's, there were a couple guys on Kodiak Island who "killed" a really big brownie.
They leaned their rifles against its side, put a cigar in his mouth, climbed on his back, posed for pictures with the "dead" bear, etc......that is, until the fricker rolled atop their rifles and came back to life all the sudden.
Mad bear, couldn't get to rifles, only had a single side arm...they didn't get hurt, but sure wasn't a good day.

After I shoot, I always like to pour a big cup of coffee from the thermos and make sure they die out.
