it's the same cheap crap as you posted.
i'm sure either of them will be fine for range use.
i honestly would splurge since you didn't actually pay for the rifle itself, but that's just one man's opinion. if you've never messed with ARs before, it'd be a good practice do take down the barrel and add a freefloat option.
but that's going to require additional tools:
barrel wrench, punches, etc.

add a drop in rail.
realize it's not good enough.
buy a new free float option.
then think "well, if i have the barrel out, might as well get a new barrel as well."

Get yourself a 4 inch vise and tool stand from Harbor Freight, great for torquing barrels.

Ok. So Iooked into changing out the D ring for a barrel nut, removing the A2 site, and replacing the gas block. It doesn't look to difficult, but I imagine its much harder than what this video is showing. It may be something I look to do in the future.

Hardest thing in that video is getting those tapered front sight post pins out. I've never seen them come out that easy. Everything else really is that simple, like anything having the right tools make a huge difference.

Didn't get to watch the video since I'm at work. But it's definitely not hard at all. Absolute hardest part is driving roll pins when building up the lower. And that's not hard, it's just annoying and risks scratching up the lower. The upper stuff you are talking about doing is easy. People talk about aligning the gas block as being difficult, but I've never found it difficult (have had issues tuning, but nothing to do with alignment of the gasblock itself)
As a few have said, it can get addicting (granted I have an obsessive personality). I literally bought a upper receiver vice block and a cheap armorer's wrench for like $25 or $30 total. Then go to auto zone to use their free tool loaner program to get the torque wrench. Outside of that it's allen wrenches and cheap punches I already had for cleaning handguns. Since early March, I've built 2 guns from scratch, and already have plans for the next gun. Too many cool things to put on the gun and you can't put them all on one gun, so you need more!!!

That's my fear. I have enough hobbies/addictions to take up my time. Not sure if I should add another. What's great is that I work at a place with a shop that has almost every tool I would need to accomplish this.
Really all I would need is the vice block, the pin block, and the armorer's tool. Plus the hardware for the rifle itself, of course.

Better have a good vice, blocks, a good torque wrench, a good set of roll pin punches, blue lochtite, grease and an armorers wrench, and a dead blow hammer, plus a nylon or brass hammer.
If you have those items, you can do it relatively easily. It's still a bitch to get the D-ring off, though, unless you have the D-ring tool, but it's not a necessity.
Honestly, I'd just look into a Troy free float handguard that uses the same barrel nut. That's the hardest part about removing a traditional M4 nut setup.

I've gone too many days without buying something. Just have iron sights on my first build which was a budget build. Got a 5x spitfire prism from Vortex and a Vortex micro red dot to mount piggy back. Overall setup is $500. It's a pretty light gun and may try to do some run and gun competitions next year with it. Looks like fun.

For hobbyists I’d bet 50% of those end up getting dremeled. They’re not fun.
