I'm looking to start dumping some $$$ into my Tacoma so I can better enjoy the back country out here.
I don't have much automotive experience yet so meeting some trustworthy techs could help get me going in the right directions.
I know of a lot of message boards that are wealths of knowledge, but I learn better face to face.
Anyone worth recommending?

Not many shops are gonna let you work with techs. You will find local guys in clubs and on forums that will absolutely have no problem teaching. I was a part of TTORA for a while, and even got the LA chapter started. They are a were bunch of guys, and always had stuff going on.
I went to Texas a few times and Tennessee once with them

Good suggestions.
I should have explored the groups and clubs in Louisiana before I left.

Idk how they operate now, but there were 6 or 7 of us with Tacomas in the LA-TTORA club (back when it was Tacomas only). We went on rides with the regular TTORA guys, the LA4x4 guys, and on our own.
Colorado should have significantly more people

Hit the Toyota section and you'll never need a mechanic.
Everything you'll ever need to buy is at All Pro Off Road- Toy specialists, but if you call, they will rec. shops in CO that can help I'm sure.

The Toyota Land Cruiser association isn't just for cruisers.
Colorado has Rising Sun Toyota 4x4 club out of Denver and Colorado Land Cruisers out of Colorado Springs.
