You sure you aren't thinking of EHD?

I stand corrected.. CWD was detected in a few different counties and there was a threat of drastically increasing bag limits and decreasing/removing antler size restrictions, like you said

This rule was in place in Arkansas before CWD was discovered.. didn't stop the spread.
truth is wildlife agencies don't know much about CWD and are freaking out and using outdated research to try and control it.

for the record deboned meat and a caped hide with a cleaned skull plate should be legal. It was the last time I hunted in Texas 2 years ago.

It's really not that big of a deal. Maybe a little inconvenient for some but I'm all for protecting the state herd any way possible

I agree with Feliciana. It is a PIA however CWD is a huge deal lets do everything we can to stop it. Even if it doesn't work at least we didn't sit on our hands and watch it move to Louisiana.

I hunt S Tx, it's law to have the tagged head on board in Tx to prove sex/match tag.
What the hell do you do with the heads when you cross the state line on I10... just chunk em over the side of the freaking bridge ?

I talked to Gary at Deep South Wildlife Studio about this a few months ago. He said you can get with a local taxidermist where ever you hunt and have them take the cap completely off the skull. Then have them remove the skull plate. He said it only takes a minute to do.
He said they will charge you a few bucks but your local taxidermist in Louisiana will then take that $ off the mount price. It will for sure hurt local taxidermy business though.

This won't affect taxidermists much at all. Any taxidermist worth his salt will always have plenty of work to do

Until you frick up and kill a buck you want to either have mounted in LA or bring the head back to do a skull mount and have to either find someone in Mississippi to do the taxidermy or spend all night fleshing out a head. A lot of people drive to Mississippi to hunt and don't have a camp there to process deer. This is going to equate for a bunch of headaches.

It's not that hard to do. It's an inconvenience, but it's not that difficult.
