Awesome catch. One more like that and you have a sauce piquant, family sized.

NICE!

8-10 pounds? So should have 4-5 lbs if meat. At 14 bucks a lb you got yaself a pretty expensive meal. Quite a delicacy too.

Agree. Like finding a $75 bill on the ground.

W & Geauxtiga

I followed the snapping turtle thread pretty close last summer, and learned a lot from you two and tenfoe. I also really enjoyed seeing the different ways everybody catches snapping turtles and seeing what everybody catches. So thanks, and keep up the good posts!

I tried my hand at it twice last summer, but had no luck. But the second time I tried, 3 of my 5 lines were cut so I'm guessing there was something on them. I am really looking forward to catching some this year!

Awesome. Glad you enjoyed.

I'm not trying to be modest here, this is the truth. W and tenfoe taught me most of what helped me have success. In fact I'm not close to tenfoe's ability yet. I hope to try and catch a big boy this summer. W clued me into mastering those snappas.

Don't give up. I was about to when W re-charged my battry and I ended up catching like 5 in three days last summer.

You're mother frickin right! Last summer I drank a lot, and probably gave away a bunch of information I wouldn't on average Sunday mornings. I haven't really fished them any this year yet. I caught a couple in hoopnets in January on accident, that's all the turtle meat I have. I guess it's time to get mad at em again. I usually start after turkey season, so they have a couple more weeks to get fat and live free.

ten is turtle boss around these parts, IMO.

I enjoy fishing for them.

Just like all other fishing, catching isn't a given.

Takes an hour at max to clean the turtle, even for a noob.

Geaux has an awesome cleaning thread.

Keep your meat next time or donate it to us.

I've held one in a laundry bucket outside for months. Feed it and it will survive longer than you.

Between that, work, coaching tball, turkeys, getting my garden going, yep, been too busy to fish turtles. I'll probably set a couple nets out in May.
